    THE FRINGE

    #MAKE YOUR FRINGE Device

  • The Brief

We were asked to create a focal point for the #MakeYourFringe campaign for the 2019 Fringe Festival.

The festival is already the largest in the world, with no shortage of visitors. The aim of the project was to encourage visitors to see more shows, but with so many to choose from, they needed inspiration.

Our role was to create the Inspiration Machine that would be the centre stage for digital marketing creative. An interactive device, which replicated an online version allowed visitors to randomly select a show or attraction to attend. With the press of a button, a show is selected at random and a short video and relevant information are displayed.

  • The Process

Despite the simple design and construction from plywood, the Inspiration Machine was not lacking in challenges. Contained within it was a 42" 4K screen which displayed the animations.Everything was run from micro-controller, the large push buttons on the front would trigger the random selection animation on the screen, the lights, sounds, motors for the cogs and gears on either side and a bubble machine at the rear of the device.Everything was concealed within the device, which was movable, weather proof, people proof, and accessible through a door at the rear. The device worked flawlessly over the entire festival and enable 1000's of visitors to discover a new show.
